The
Three Tuns is one of the finest listed buildings in the
town of Hay-on-Wye, reputed to be the oldest surviving house
in the town and in recognition of its importance has a Grade
II listing. The original building is believed to be a 16th
Century three bay cruck truss timber frame building, now
largely encased in stone. It has a huge central Inglenook
chimney and a wealth of period features including the original
dog leg staircase.
Famous for its unique charm and character, it became
a popular haunt with all sorts of characters ranging from
regular locals to famous personalities such as Jools Holland,
Marianne Faithful, Neil Kinnock, Huw Edwards and The Great
Train Robbers !
Unfortunately the property suffered a devastating fire
in 2005.
