Three Tuns History
The Three Tuns Pub and Restaurant is one of the finest listed buildings in the town of Hay-on-Wye, reputed to be the oldest surviving house in the town and in recognition of its importance has a Grade II listing. The original building is believed to be a 16th Century three bay cruck truss timber frame building, now largely encased in stone. It has a huge central Inglenook chimney and a wealth of period features including the original dog leg staircase.
Famous for its unique charm and character, the Three Tuns became a popular haunt with all sorts of characters ranging from regular locals to famous personalities such as Jools Holland, Marianne Faithful, Neil Kinnock, Huw Edwards and The Great Train Robbers!
Unfortunately the Three Tuns suffered a devastating fire in 2005, but a sympathetic restoration has brought life to the old building once again.
